Annapoorni Subramanian
Annapoorni born and grew up in an orthodox and traditional family, who staunchly practice Nitya Karmas and Anushtanams. Her Grandfather M. Narayanswamy was a SriVidya Upasakar and performed many austerities and rituals for more than 60 continuous years. Some of them included many homams like Chandi, Sahasra Chandi, Mahayagakramam and the like. Her Father, N. Subramanian, who is also a SriVidya Upasakar continues this tradition even to this day. He is currently the managing trustee of the SRI SRI SRI MAHALAKSHMI MATHRUBHUTHESWAR TRUST(SSSMM) Trust) which is involved for the KANCHI MAHASWAMIGAL MANIMANDAPAM at ORRIKAI , since 1996. Her family are ardent devotees of the Kanchi Mutt and continues to serve the Mutt.
Annapoorni was initiated with Japa by her grandfather and her father, and this constant atmosphere inspired her to learn Sanskrit from a very young age. Her passion for the subject continued and she graduated with a B.A Sanskrit from Queen Mary"s College, Chennai. She did her M.A and M.Phil ( Sanskrit) from Presidency College, Chennai. Some of her teachers who have inspired her along the way are Srimathi Shubha during her schooling, Srimathi Dr. Uma Maheshwari and Sri. Dr. O.R. Devanathan during her college days. They still continue to inspire her.
Annapoorni is a humble recipient of a gold medal awarded to her during her Masters. As a college student, she was involved in teaching Sanskrit shlokas to young children and Bhagavad Gita for adults at Kalavardhini(2005-2007). She also had the opportunity to record (in a CD format) Chalisa, Doha, Arthi (Ganesh, Lakshmi, Durga and Saraswati), Sri Mrytunjaya Sahasranamam, Sri Kali Sahasranamam & other Stotrams at Super Audio (Madras)PVT LTD in Chennai, India in the year 2004. She still continues her passion by teaching the language to adults and children, Vishnu Sahasranamam, Lalitha Sahasranamam and other devotional Sanskrit Stotrams to all age groups. Shloka classes are also conducted via skype/zoom to young children in London and Australia. She has also recorded the meanings of the Sanskrit Stotrams in English and Tamil. Some of them include Aditya Hrdayam, Totakashtakam, Saptashloki etc.
